I left my heart in San Francisco

While I was in Stockton for my sister’s birthday my dear friend came out to visit me because she’s moving to Germany and it had been about 5 years since we had seen each other. We soon realized that to the month, it had been 20 years since we first became friends… boy did we feel old! We decided that to celebrate our “20 year friendiversary” we would venture to San Francisco for a day.

it. was. a. blast.

We started off our adventure on the BART and rode it right into downtown SF. And guess what I saw immediately upon exiting BART?!

I thought, oh look a sign- I’ll read it, oh wait! That says “tumblr”!! Yay tumblr community!!

After I snapped the “tumblr” pic it was down to business… we both needed a bathroom- desperately. An hour on the BART with small bladders is no laughing matter. Normally that would be a minor detail not worth sharing but in this case it is because it took us 30-45 minutes to even find a bathroom. Seriously. We went into 2 Starbucks, a Subway, a drugstore, a restaurant and finally a third Starbucks before we found a bathroom. Who knew it would be such a task?! Big cities are weird, y’all. After we handled that situation we were headed back towards tourist-land and a chef was standing on the sidewalk offering us some ceasar cheese fries. We gladly took them and got about 6-7 steps away before we had to turn around to get more. An impromptu lunch ensued and I had the most delicious burger of my life. No joke. If you’re in SF, go to Ziggy’s Burgers downtown… SO amazing.

We found ourselves at the beginning of the line for the trolley and decided it was a must-do, despite having no clue where we even wanted to go. Trolley adventures ensued…

We found ourselves getting off the trolley in China Town, where we hung out for a loooong time browsing through endless scarves and coffee mugs…

We ended up buying a few scarves, one of which we are doing a “sisterhood of the traveling scarf” type thing and will be sending it back and forth to each other every couple months or so to keep in touch! Super excited about that and it’s an extremely cute scarf!

It was time to leave China Town and find new adventures so we started walking aimlessly in the general direction of Fisherman’s Wharf. Once we got into Little Italy we decided it was time for some refreshments!

Guess what?! Yep… another tumblr spotting…

We continued on our way towards Fisherman’s Wharf as the fog started to roll in…

On our way there we got really distracted by Lombard Street and had to venture up it!

It was a steep journey!

Being in the hipster capital of the universe, we figured a little planking was in order. When in Rome, right? ;)

Double planking…

The sweet Asian lady who didn’t speak much english but offered to take our picture was mortified when she saw the position we chose to pose in. We asked her to take another “normal” picture of us and she replied, “that’s ok” and handed us back the camera… but we promised to be normal… poor woman just hadn’t been introduced to “planking” yet… pretty sure she thought we were completely nuts (heck, we are!). Luckily, she snapped both pictures anyway!

Such a beautiful view!!

We made it to the top and looking over we got a peek of Fisherman’s Wharf. Since it was getting late we decided that a view from afar would suffice, so we posed accordingly…

On our way back down Lombard Street we thought that since we had already planked, a good owling was the only appropriate thing left to do…

Time to head home… we walked back through Little Italy and into downtown to hop back on the BART.

All in all, a successful “friendiversary” and trip to San Francisco! Gosh I love that city!!

Oh yeah, we did get lost on the way home… we didn’t realize we were supposed to switch BARTs to reach our destination and made it most of the way to Berkeley before realizing nothing looked familiar. Whoops! It certainly made for a good laugh though :)
